Why choose Okinawa

  • A true change of scene without leaving Japan: subtropical climate, turquoise sea and white-sand beaches.
  • Large-capacity resorts with meeting rooms, private beaches and varied dining in Onna, Nago, Yomitan and Chatan.
  • A distinctive Ryukyu culture: dance, sanshin music, karate, cuisine and crafts unique to the islands.
  • Bankoku Shinryokan, venue of the 2000 Kyushu-Okinawa G8 Summit, for high-level meetings by the sea.
  • Varied outdoor activities: diving, boat trips, mangrove kayaking, dragon boat racing and hikes in the Yanbaru forest.
  • Frequent direct flights from Tokyo, Osaka and Fukuoka, as well as from several Asian cities.

Airport access

Naha Airport (OKA): the gateway to the main island. Direct flights from Tokyo Haneda and Narita (about 2h30–2h45), Osaka (about 2 hours) and Fukuoka (about 1h45), as well as from several Asian cities.

Indicative coach times from the airport (via the Okinawa Expressway, outside congestion):

  • Central Naha: 15–20 minutes
  • Chatan / American Village: 30–40 minutes
  • Okinawa Convention Center (Ginowan): about 40 minutes
  • Yomitan and Onna: 60–75 minutes
  • Nago / Busena: about 75–90 minutes
  • Motobu (Churaumi Aquarium): 1h45–2 hours

Ishigaki (ISG): about 1 hour by air from Naha, or direct flights from Tokyo and Osaka; the gateway to the Yaeyama Islands.

Tip: traffic around Naha is heavy at rush hour and on weekends. We schedule group arrivals accordingly and arrange an airport welcome with refreshments before long transfers north.

MICE capacity

Okinawa Convention Center, on the seafront in Ginowan, is the island's main congress venue: a theater, exhibition hall and conference rooms, with a maximum capacity in the order of 4,000 according to the Okinawa Convention & Visitors Bureau, about 40 minutes from the airport. Bankoku Shinryokan, in Nago on the Busena peninsula, hosted the 2000 G8 Summit and suits conferences and receptions of up to about 500 in an exceptional oceanfront setting.

Most incentives and seminars, however, take place in the large resorts of the west coast — The Busena Terrace, ANA InterContinental Manza Beach Resort, Hyatt Regency Seragaki Island, Halekulani Okinawa, Okinawa Kariyushi Resort EXES Onna, Sheraton Okinawa Sunmarina, Renaissance Okinawa Resort, Hilton Okinawa Chatan Resort — which combine ballrooms, breakout rooms, dining and beach. For more than 300 participants we often split the group between two neighboring resorts in Onna. Exact capacities are confirmed case by case.

Seasonality

  • January–February: mild (often around 15–20 °C), ideal for golf, seminars and humpback whale watching (January to March). Early cherry blossom (hikan-zakura) in late January–February in the north.
  • March–April: an excellent compromise, with warming sea and beach openings. Avoid Golden Week.
  • May–June: rainy season (tsuyu), earlier than on the mainland, usually early May to late June; showers are frequent but often intermittent.
  • July–August: peak beach season with intense sun and heat; high summer and Obon demand, with high rates.
  • July–October: typhoon season, peaking in August–September. A typhoon can ground flights for one or two days, so we always prepare indoor fallback programs and suitable insurance.
  • October–November: sea still warm, fewer visitors and pleasant weather: one of the best periods for an incentive.
  • December: mild and quiet, with attractive rates outside the year-end holidays.

Frequently asked questions

When is the best time for an Okinawa incentive trip?

April, October and November offer the best balance: pleasant sea, moderate heat and lower typhoon risk than in August–September. Winter suits seminars and golf. In summer the sea is perfect, but you must accept typhoon risk and higher rates.

What happens if a typhoon hits?

Typhoons are forecast several days ahead. We monitor forecasts, adapt the program (indoor resort activities, rescheduled excursions) and handle flight changes with the airlines. We recommend suitable cancellation and extended-stay insurance for trips from July to October.

Can we hold a resort seminar for 200 people?

Yes. Several large resorts in Onna, Nago and Chatan have ballrooms and breakout rooms suited to this format, with on-site accommodation. Above 300 people we usually split the group between two neighboring resorts.

Should we stay in Naha or at a resort?

For an incentive or a disconnection seminar, a west-coast resort (Onna, Yomitan, Nago) is preferable. Naha suits short stays, budget-conscious programs or a first night before heading north. An evening in Naha remains a highlight even for a resort-based group.

How long does it take to reach Okinawa from Tokyo?

About 2h30–2h45 by direct flight between Tokyo (Haneda or Narita) and Naha, with many daily departures. Then allow 30 minutes to 2 hours by road depending on the resort. Okinawa combines easily with Tokyo or Kansai in a single program.
