Executive committees (6 to 10). Bay, on the 24th floor of The Ritz-Carlton, has two private rooms for 10, one facing Hakata Bay; GohGan has a small room for about six. At Kawataro Nakasu Honten, VIPs sit at the counter around the tank of live squid, served as ikizukuri and then as tempura.
Groups of 20 to 40. GohGan offers group packages from 20 guests (from ¥220,000 for 20) with two hours of free-flow drinks. The Japanese boat at Nakasu Hakatabune is chartered from 30 guests and the Western boat La Belle Époque from 20, for a two-hour cruise with dinner on board. At Shinmiura Hakata Honten, the Kingin room (2 to 30) is wheelchair-friendly.
Groups of 80 and more. The great hall at Hakata Ryotei Chikae seats about 100 with a Hakata geigi performance (dance, song, ozashiki games), from ¥18,150 per person plus the geigi fees. Beyond that, we combine Hakata Motsunabe Ooyama Honten (72) and Shinmiura (60), or propose a free-choice lunch at iiTo Tenjin, connected to the subway.
Weather and evening rhythm
Hakata Ryotei Chikae in Daimyo: its tatami rooms can be booked for 4 to 120, including a great hall of about 100 with a stage for geigi. For a free-choice meal, iiTo Tenjin has 480 seats, though no area can be reserved exclusively.
Each Nakasu stall seats only about ten and local etiquette discourages large groups: we form teams of 6 to 8, reserve across several yatai and host each team. As stalls close in bad weather, Tenjin Norengai serves as a covered fallback.
Yes at Hakata Ryotei Chikae, which offers vegan, vegetarian and halal kaiseki on request (vegan to be ordered at least a day ahead). Ooyama's motsunabe, made with wagyu tripe, does not suit vegetarians, so we agree on another dish in advance.
¥4,500 to ¥7,600 at Hakata Motsunabe Ooyama Honten (¥8,200 to ¥9,800 with free-flow drinks), ¥8,800 to ¥12,100 for mizutaki at Shinmiura, ¥6,600 to ¥15,400 for a Nakasu Hakatabune cruise. Kaiseki at Chikae costs ¥9,900 to ¥22,000, omakase up to ¥33,000.
Yes: Shinmiura Hakata Honten can be booked out entirely, the two Nakasu Hakatabune boats are chartered separately, and Bay at The Ritz-Carlton accepts a full buy-out (room and terrace) by exception for corporate events. GohGan considers buy-outs on request.
