8-Day Japan Grand Tour: Tokyo, Hakuba, Kyoto, Okinawa
This 8-day trip for top performers brings together four sides of Japan: Tokyo, the Japanese Alps in Hakuba, Kyoto and Okinawa's west coast. Transfers are realistic: Hokuriku Shinkansen to Nagano then coach to Hakuba, Shinkansen and Thunderbird train via Tsuruga to Kyoto, and a domestic flight from Itami to Naha in about 2 hours. Designed for winter, from mid-December to March, with skiing in Hakuba and mild weather in Okinawa, for 15 to 60 participants.
From €9,600 per person, excluding international flights
Executive committees (6 to 10). Nikusho Nakazawa is Hakuba's best table for a leadership or top-performer dinner: its own butchery, Kobe sirloin always available, four private rooms for 4 to 8 (10 when two are joined), English menus and English-speaking staff. It is 10 minutes by car from the Happo hotels and 20 to 25 minutes from Hakuba Norikura.
Groups of 20 to 60. Restaurant Chamonix seats up to 64 for a French-Japanese dinner built on Shinshu produce, followed by a fireside drink at The Lodge; non-residents book and choose their course by 11am on the day. Hakuba Happo Yamabuki Shokudo, in the former dining hall of Hakuba Marukin Ryokan, hosts 30 to 60 around sharing plates and beer, 5 minutes' walk from the bus terminal.
Groups of 80 and more. At lunch, Hakuba Deli at the Iwatake summit absorbs 50 to 150, skiers and non-skiers together, with a group photo facing the three Hakuba peaks. For a dinner of that size, no single room in our selection is large enough: we split the group between Yamabuki Shokudo (104) and Chamonix (64), or across Nikusho Nakazawa's rooms, booths and counter.
Seasons and constraints
- Iwatake's winter season runs from mid-December to late March and its green season from late April to mid-November; Alps360 opens from late June to mid-October and again in the ski season.
- In strong wind the gondolas can stop, so we plan a fallback lunch at the base, at Escal Plaza for Goryu.
- Nikusho Nakazawa closes on Wednesdays and charges 50% for headcount changes within 72 hours; Sobajin Hakuba closes on Thursdays, serves lunch only and takes cash only.
Frequently asked questions
Which Hakuba restaurant takes the largest group?
At lunch, Hakuba Deli at the Hakuba Iwatake summit (about 312 self-service seats) takes 50 to 150. In the evening, Hakuba Happo Yamabuki Shokudo has 104 seats in a single hall and Restaurant Chamonix 64.
Can a restaurant be booked out in Hakuba?
No venue in our selection publishes a buy-out package. Nikusho Nakazawa can consider one on request, with no guarantee; otherwise its four private rooms for 4 to 8 offer the most privacy. At Yamabuki Shokudo, we book and pre-order for the group.
Are vegan diets and allergies handled?
Restaurant Chamonix offers a vegan menu with no animal-derived ingredients. Nikusho Nakazawa handles allergies declared at booking. For the other venues we send the list of restrictions ahead.
What budget per person should we plan?
At lunch, ¥950 to ¥1,950 at Sobajin Hakuba and ¥1,500 to ¥1,700 per dish at Hakuba Deli. In the evening, dishes at Yamabuki Shokudo cost ¥710 to ¥1,760, and Chamonix courses ¥10,565 to ¥21,503 including tax and service. Nikusho Nakazawa does not publish prices, so we request a quote.
What happens if the gondolas stop?
The Iwatake and Goryu gondolas can stop in strong wind or storms. We always keep a fallback lunch at the base: at Escal Plaza for Alps360, at the foot of the slopes for Hakuba Deli.
