Torigin Honten – Nagoya Cochin

A Nagoya Cochin chicken specialist for over fifty years in Nishiki 3-chome, a founding member of the breed's promotion association and committed to the pure-bred strain. The house claims to have created Nagoya Cochin hot pot and serves the bird as same-morning sashimi, grills, fried dishes and kaiseki. Three neighbouring venues: the Honten (tables and counter), Torigin Fugetsu, moved into a new building in 2020 with private rooms and a banquet hall, and Torigin Kiraku.

Corporate use

A regional-produce dinner for a delegation or team of up to 40 in private rooms, in the lively Nishiki 3-chome district where moving on to a bar is easy. As the Honten only has tables and a counter, groups are seated at Fugetsu or Kiraku a few steps away. Above 10 people the cheapest course is not offered; lunch banquets are possible from 10 people by reservation. All-you-can-drink from 5 people.

Private rooms & private hire

Private rooms for 2 to 40 people, tatami, sunken kotatsu or tables, spread between Torigin Fugetsu (zashiki, banquet hall, table rooms) and Torigin Kiraku. The Honten itself has only tables and a counter.

The menu

Five kaiseki courses of 7 to 8 dishes built around Nagoya Cochin: sashimi of chicken slaughtered that morning (or steamed chicken), grills, fried dishes, hot pot in miso or mizutaki style, and seasonal rice; the top course adds wagyu sirloin on a ceramic plate and eel hitsumabushi. The hot pot can be swapped for two dishes. Extras: fried tebakara wings, skewers, a sashimi boat.
