Yabaton Sakae Matsuzakaya – miso-katsu

Since 1947 Yabaton has served miso-katsu, breaded pork under a red-miso sauce whose recipe remains secret, now one of Nagoya's emblems. This branch on the 10th floor of the Matsuzakaya department store in Sakae is one of the few in the chain that takes reservations and set courses: 85 seats, including four private rooms.

Corporate use

An easy local-speciality lunch between meetings in Sakae: unlike the Yaba-cho head store, which does not book more than four people, this branch accepts reservations and set courses. The four private rooms total 42 seats, so a small group can be seated apart; a larger group is spread into the main room. On weekdays the restaurant closes from 3 pm to 5 pm.

Private rooms & private hire

Four private rooms: one for 18, one for 6 and two tatami zashiki for 10 and 8. The main room has 58 table seats and 9 at the counter.

The menu

Loin or fillet miso-katsu, "waraji tonkatsu" (a large cutlet half miso, half sauce), katsu on a sizzling plate, platters with fried prawns, plus doteni (miso-stewed beef), fillet skewers and miso daikon. Beers include a Yabaton Ale brewed for the house. Allergen information is available on the website.
