Our pick to introduce a group to mizutaki in a traditional setting: one large modular tatami room for up to 60, or several rooms to split teams. Staff guide each step of the meal at the table, which helps with overseas guests. The restaurant is slightly off-centre, so we arrange taxis or a coach.

All 100 seats are in private or semi-private rooms: the horigotatsu Yanagi room (2 to 13), a modular horigotatsu tatami room overlooking the river (2 to 60), and the Kingin room with tables and chairs (2 to 30), wheelchair-friendly with an accessible toilet. Full buyout possible.
The menu
Two dinner courses built around mizutaki: 'Sakura' (chicken breast salad, hassun, mizutaki, vegetables, broth over rice, dessert) and the fuller 'Matsu' (seasonal fish, fried wings, gizzard confit, tsukune meatballs). A two-hour free-flow drinks option (beer, sake, shochu, whisky). Allergies and preferences should be given when booking.
