Osaka street food tour

A walking exploration of Osaka's specialties from Dotonbori to Shinsekai in small guided groups, with pre-booked tastings and an optional team challenge format.

Duration
2.5 to 3 hours
Group size
10–150 pax
Cities
Osaka

Osaka calls itself the "nation's kitchen" (tenka no daidokoro) and embraces kuidaore, the idea of eating until you drop. The tour introduces the city's signature dishes: takoyaki, okonomiyaki, kushikatsu, gyoza and, depending on the route, the stalls of Kuromon Market. Each sub-group of 8 to 12 follows an English- or French-speaking guide and stops at four or five places where tastings are booked in advance.

For a corporate group, the format has two strengths. It gets participants out of the hotel into a relaxed, lively atmosphere, and it easily becomes a challenge: each team receives a list of dishes to find, questions to ask the cooks and photos to take, with a ranking at the end of the evening.

The tour also tells the story of Osaka as a merchant city, direct and warm, quite different from Tokyo and Kyoto. It often ends in a private bar or restaurant for a final drink together.

Objectives

  • Discover Osaka's food culture in a lively way
  • Encourage informal exchanges in small groups
  • Challenge option: build team spirit and initiative
  • Offer a light, memorable evening

How it works

  1. 1Split into sub-groups of 8 to 12, each with a guide.
  2. 2Staggered departures from the hotel or a meeting point in Namba.
  3. 3Four to five pre-booked tasting stops between Dotonbori, Hozenji Yokocho and Shinsekai.
  4. 4Challenge option: missions, questions and photos per team.
  5. 5Shared finish at a reserved bar or restaurant, then return to the hotel.

Good to know

  • About 3 to 4 km on foot, with an optional subway ride between Namba and Shinsekai.
  • Dietary needs should reach us two weeks ahead; some stops can be swapped (pork and seafood are common).
  • Very busy districts in the evening and at weekends: sub-groups are capped at 12.
  • Rain plan: route focused on covered arcades (Shinsaibashi, Sennichimae) and seated stops.
  • English- or French-speaking guides; please drink responsibly in public spaces.

Indicative budget

Indicative: from ~€90 per person (guides, tastings, one drink per stop), excluding final dinner and transfers. Challenge format extra.

Frequently asked questions

Does the street food tour replace dinner?

Yes, four or five tasting stops add up to a full meal. We still recommend a seated final stop to close the evening together.

Can 150 people do the tour?

Yes, in 12 to 15 sub-groups on several parallel routes with staggered starts. This avoids overwhelming small eateries.

Can the tour run at lunchtime?

Yes, with a route centered on Kuromon Market and Dotonbori. The evening atmosphere, with the neon signs, remains the most popular.
