Banyan Tree Higashiyama Kyoto

A 52-room luxury hotel opened in August 2024 on the Higashiyama hillside near Kiyomizu-dera, set in a bamboo grove. The only Kyoto hotel with a Noh stage (the Bamboo Pavilion, design supervised by Kengo Kuma), plus a natural hot spring, spa and kaiseki restaurant: a place for small executive groups rather than for meetings.

MICE strengths

  • Bamboo Pavilion Noh stage facing the bamboo grove, a setting for Noh and geiko and maiko dance performances
  • Ryozen kaiseki restaurant and the Ryozen SEN Bettei counter for leadership dinners
  • Bar Ryozen, focused on local sake, for a small cocktail or aperitif
  • Natural hot spring (indoor and outdoor baths), Banyan Tree Spa and rooms with a private onsen
  • Walking distance to Kiyomizu-dera, Kodai-ji and the Ninenzaka and Sannenzaka lanes

Why choose it

For an executive trip, a top-end incentive or an executive committee retreat of roughly 10 to 40 people, looking for a private cultural experience (Noh, maiko, kaiseki) in the heart of Higashiyama rather than a meeting room.

Possible limits

No ballroom or meeting room advertised by the hotel: capacities and terms for a private use of the Noh stage are to be confirmed on request. Only 52 rooms, very high rates in spring and autumn. Car access via narrow, busy streets and limited parking: plan transfers in small vehicles.

Airport

Kansai (KIX): about 90 min by private taxi to the hotel, or about 75 min by JR Haruka to Kyoto Station, then about 20 min by taxi. Itami: about 55 min by limousine bus to Kyoto Station, then about 20 min by taxi.

Station

About 20 min by taxi from Kyoto Station; about 10 min by taxi from Gion-Shijo. About 800 m from Kiyomizu-dera, close to Kodai-ji and the Ryozen Museum of History.

Indicative budget
