Ryokan · Luxury — Fukuoka

Yufuin Tamanoyu

A ryokan opened in 1953 as a rest house for a Zen temple, now 16 cottages and rooms scattered through deciduous woodland in Yufuin. Every room has a hinoki bath fed by the house spring, alongside a large bath with outdoor pools facing Mount Yufu. The STAY Tamanoyu annex (10 rooms) can be booked as a whole for up to 20 guests, so a leadership group of 20 to 25 can stay across two neighbouring buildings.

MICE strengths

  • 16 rooms in the main building, 60 to 140 m², almost all with a tatami living room and a twin bedroom
  • The STAY Tamanoyu annex can be booked as a whole (10 rooms, up to 20 guests), and is offered for company seminars
  • Meals are served in the Budōya restaurant or a banquet room, so the group dines together rather than room by room
  • A private hot-spring bath in every room, useful for tattooed guests or anyone who prefers privacy
  • Nicol's lounge bar and a small library lounge reserved for staying guests in the evening, for informal talks after dinner

Why choose it

For a leadership team of 8 to 25 that wants one of Yufuin's reference ryokan, with a shared dinner, a private bath in every room and the option of taking a whole annex for the group.

Possible limits

No meeting room is advertised: a work session takes place in the banquet room or the annex lounge, to be agreed with the ryokan. The annex does not serve dinner (the group dines in the main building by reservation). No in-room dining. Bookings open only six months ahead, and some rooms do not accept preschool children.

Airport

Ōita Airport: about 1 hour by road (Ōita Expressway to Yufuin IC). Fukuoka Airport: about 2 hours by car or private coach, or the subway to Hakata and then the limited express.

Station

JR Yufuin Station, a few minutes by taxi, served from Hakata by the Yufuin no Mori and Yufu limited expresses (about 2 hours 10 minutes). The ryokan sits down a quiet lane off the Yunotsubo shopping street.

Indicative budget

€€€€About ¥42,000 to ¥73,000 per person per night with dinner and breakfast, tax and service included (rates published on the English site, subject to change). STAY Tamanoyu annex buy-out: ¥200,000 for up to 10 guests, ¥300,000 for 11 to 20 guests per night, light breakfast included, dinner extra.
